Praise and Prayer

  1. Praise the Lord that Benjamin Joel arrived safely in May.
  2. Pray for us as we prepare to leave for furlough in late August and for travel safety as we visit and report.
  3. Pray that God would raise up more partners to support our ministry, so that we can return to the field in late November.
  4. Praise the Lord for a great season of summer camp and pray for the campers who have made decisions, and especially for Attila.
  5. Praise the Lord who has supplied the funds for a car. We will be able to purchase a used station wagon when we return from furlough in late Fall. Thank you to all who generously gave!
Psalm 5:3

Benjamin Joel...

Benjamin Joel

Thank you for all of your faithful prayers throughout the pregnancy. Benjamin Joel Bartos first saw the light of day on May 12 at 1:15 in the afternoon. The previous night we had made the hour-and-a-half trek to the hospital after my water broke. Everything seemed to be going pretty well until, after 12 hours of labor, little Beni’s heartbeat began slowing down significantly. The doctor didn’t know if the umbilical chord was being pinched, or if there was another problem. She only knew that we had about another hour of labor to go, and that Beni probably wouldn’t get enough oxygen if things continued as they were. So she made the decision to do a cesarean section. Beni was born within a half-hour.

It was wonderful to have Andris’ parents here for two weeks after the birth. This is their first grandchild and they were overwhelmed with joy. They were a great help to me and Andris loved having his mother’s Hungarian cooking for two weeks. About a week after they left, my parents came for a wonderful week, which ended much too soon. The Bartos Family I am glad that we will see them in just a few short weeks when we visit the States for my sister’s wedding, followed by a 12 week furlough.

Summer camp has been a very different experience for me with Beni’s arrival. Andris has responsibilities at camp from early morning until late at night. I joke around that Beni probably thinks he is being raised by a single mom. However, Beni and I get over to the camp more days than not. He gets to see Daddy up on stage, and he is very popular with the campers.

Please pray for us as we leave for a furlough in late August. If we reach our required support level, we will be able to return to Hungary after Thanksgiving. We look forward to visiting friends and supporters, but are unsure how Beni will react to all the traveling. We would appreciate your prayers for patience, endurance, and wisdom.

Summer Camp...

It’s hard to believe that we are already in our seventh week of summer camp. We have shared God’s great love with over 800 young people so far. We are thankful for the money donated for camp scholarships, which have provided the opportunity for many kids to attend camp who would otherwise not be able to. Over 500 scholarships were dispersed, many of them to children from broken homes. Please pray for these precious kids.

Bible Hour

In addition to completing my duties as Program Director, I was privileged again this year to serve as the Bible teacher for a week of camp. I taught from the book of Daniel. It was great to see them learn.

I have enjoyed joining the campers and counselors playing soccer every day. It has helped me to build stronger relationships with the kids, not to mention shaving a few inches off my expanding waistline. (Anything to make Angie happy!)

In the past we have had an older, rougher group of campers come to play basketball each summer… traditionally a discipline problem. Years ago we reported about the first of them who came to Christ. That young man, named Dezső, graduated from the Bible School, spent the past year as an intern, and is now preparing to join our staff. Since his salvation, several others from that group have made the decision to trust Christ as their Savior. One young man from that group, named Attila, came to camp this summer. Attila knows the gospel message from his years of camp, but didn’t want to make the decision… until Wednesday. Dezső, after years of prayers and witnessing, had the opportunity to lead his friend to Christ. Praise the Lord!

Please pray for the rest of summer camp, and for each of the campers as they return home to their family, friends, and schoolmates. Pray for the many who have made important decisions this summer… that their faith would grow strong as they spend time in His Word.

Thank you for your faithful prayers and financial support, which make this ministry effective.

To God be the glory!
